Relax this winter with a spa break in the Lake District

Wednesday 13th January, 2010

Anyone staying in accommodation in the Lake District who is feeling the need to relax and banish the winter blues should think about booking into a spa for the day, according to one travel journalist.

Writing for the Daily Mail, Sebastian Lander suggested that a visit to one of the region’s spas could be the perfect antidote to a day of hill walking.

He recommended a trip to the Holbeck Ghyll Health Spa, situated in a country house overlooking Lake Windermere.

Treatments on offer include facials, massages and pedicures to help a weary walker to unwind.

Mr Lander made particular mention of the fell walkers’ life saving back and leg massage on offer at the establishment, which includes an aromatherapy massage and a warm mud mask.

For anyone who wants to spend a whole day in the luxurious surroundings, there is a Michelin-starred restaurant on site to provide some culinary delights.

In news that may be of interest to hikers, it was reported last week that many of the paths in the region were not badly damaged by the flooding which hit parts of the Lake District late last year.
